About
Who are we?
Chamsin is a website dedicated to political analysis of the Middle East, created and run by a political science student passionate about this region and its complexity. The goal? To make the dynamics of the Near East and the Gulf accessible to everyone, whatever your previous knowledge. This is not about elitist erudition, but about ongoing learning, open to those who want to understand, decipher and follow a regional reality that is often little-known or misunderstood in Europe.
Whether you’re a newcomer, an informed enthusiast, or simply curious, this site aims to be an entry point: to offer a different way to get information, to learn how to question and investigate, and to think about the region beyond clichés.
Legal Status
Since August 2025, Chamsin has been a non-profit organization governed by French law (Association loi 1901), officially registered under the full name CHAMSIN: Observatory of Societies, Cultures and Conflicts in the Middle East. This legal status affirms our commitment to producing independent content, with no commercial purpose or political affiliation, and in service of the public interest. The organization is run by a volunteer team and is open to anyone who wishes to contribute, share ideas, or get involved. No membership fee is required to join or participate.
Why “Chamsin”?
The chamsin is a hot, dry wind that sweeps periodically across the Middle East, from the Maghreb to the Gulf, via Egypt, the Arabian Peninsula and as far as the southern shores of Iran. In a region divided by borders, languages, cultures and conflicts, this wind is one of the rare natural phenomena shared across the area, crossing political and religious divides. Here, it symbolises a breath of unity, a slender but real thread linking peoples and histories, inviting us to look globally without forgetting local specificities.
Our sources & editorial transparency
Chamsin relies on a diversity of sources to provide balanced, well-documented, and honest analyses on the Middle East. Our approach is to compare viewpoints and cross-check information: we consult academic literature, international press, local media (including opposition and diaspora outlets), field reports, government statements, and analysis from regional actors.
We are committed to total transparency regarding the origin of our information. Every article and report cites its sources, and we provide a document listing our main sources by country to ensure readers have a clear and critical view of our references.
