Who are we?
Chamsin is a website and nonprofit association dedicated to political analysis of the Middle East. The goal? Making the dynamics of the Near East and the Gulf accessible to all, regardless of prior knowledge. This is not about elitist erudition, but about a collective, ongoing learning process, open to anyone wishing to understand, interpret, and follow a regional news cycle often misunderstood in Europe.
Nonprofit status
Since August 2025, Chamsin has been a nonprofit association under French law (loi 1901), registered with the prefecture under the full name CHAMSIN: Observatory of Middle Eastern societies, cultures, and conflicts. RNA: W751280228. Editorial independence: no partisan affiliation, no commercial objective.
The association is run by a volunteer team and is open to anyone who wishes to contribute, suggest ideas, or join the project. No membership fee is required to participate.
Why “Chamsin”?
The chamsin is a hot, dry wind that sweeps across the Middle East periodically. In a region fragmented by borders, languages, and conflicts, it symbolizes a breath of unity: a fragile but real thread connecting peoples and their histories, without erasing local specificities.
Our sources & editorial transparency
Our analyses rely on a wide variety of sources: academic literature, international press, local media (including opposition or diaspora outlets), field reports, official statements, and scholarly work. Each article cites its references, and we publish a source list by country.
